Skin Cancer Virginia

The diagnosis of a skin cancer, particularly when it involves the face, can be stressful to a patient. The fear of scarring or disfigurement can be overwhelming. However, most skin cancers can be safely removed with minimal chances of recurrence and excellent scars. Simple skin cancers such as basal cell or squamous cell carcinomas, can often be removed under local anesthesia in our office procedure room. When a skin lesion involves sensitive areas in the face, Dr. Mesbahi often works closely with a Mohs surgeon who will perform the resection of the skin lesion followed by closure of the defect by Dr. Mesbahi. Mohs surgeons are dermatologists who have completed advanced training in the removal of skin cancers that are located in sensitive areas of the face or are recurrent.

When defects from a skin cancer removal are significant, Dr. Mesbahi usually performs complex reconstructive procedures in the operating room in order to maximize patient comfort. A specialist in the reconstruction of cancer defects, Dr. Mesbahi performs procedures that minimize changes to your appearance and conceal scars as much as possible.
