Mommy Makeover

What is a Mommy Makeover?

Although pregnancy is a beautiful and natural process, the effects it has on a woman’s body are often dramatic and unsightly. No amount of exercise or dieting can correct stretch marks, sagging breasts, or loose skin on the abdomen. The Mommy Makeover combines multiple cosmetic procedures at one time to give mothers the youthful, feminine shape they once had.

The Benefits of Mommy Makeover

Mommy Makeover Options

Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck)

  • Abdominoplasty, also known as a “tummy tuck,” will remove excess skin on the abdomen to restore a flatter, more feminine contour to a woman’s midsection.
  • This procedure can remove the lower “pooch” that often remains on the abdomen after pregnancy. Stretch marks in the area can also be removed if they fall in line with the skin that is removed.

Liposuction

  • Liposuction will eliminate excess fat in the abdomen, thighs, buttocks, and almost any other area of the body that carries excess fat.
  • Liposuction can be used along with a tummy tuck to remove stubborn fat deposits and provide superior results. It can give mothers the smooth, youthful silhouette they desire without significant downtime.

Breast Lift

  • A breast lift restores a youthful appearance to the breasts by literally lifting the breasts to a higher position and by eliminating sagging skin.
  • This procedure is especially helpful to mothers because of the significant fluctuation in breast size that occurs during pregnancy. If the areolas have stretched, they can also be reduced in size if desired.

Breast Augmentation

  • A breast augmentation increases the size and improves the shape of a woman’s breasts.
  • Increasing breast size after pregnancy can boost a woman’s confidence and sense of femininity. When a mother has breastfed for a long time, it can feel empowering to enhance her breasts’ appeal by increasing their size.

Breast Reduction

  • A breast reduction reduces the size of a woman’s breasts and improves their shape.
  • Whether a woman had large breasts before pregnancy or gained them as a result, a breast reduction makes the breasts appear more youthful and shapely, reduces back pain and skin irritation caused by heavy breasts, and often makes clothes shopping easier.

Patients who have the best results with the Mommy Makeover are close to a healthy weight for their height, have good skin elasticity, and are finished having children. You may be turned away from the abdominoplasty component of this procedure if you have a significant amount of weight to lose; however, your candidacy can best be determined during a face-to-face consultation with Dr. Mesbahi.

For the best results, your body should be as “normal” as possible before the procedure. You should maintain a steady weight for at least three months and wait two to three months after finishing breastfeeding to ensure your breasts do not continue to change. It is not wise to get a tummy tuck soon after delivery because the uterus takes several weeks to return to its normal size, and this will impede your best results.

The general answer is “No” because childbirth will completely undo the results of the procedures performed. However, if you plan to wait many years before having another child, you may want to enjoy your new, youthful-looking body while you wait. You and your surgeon can discuss this issue during your consultation.

The length of recovery time depends on which procedures you choose to include in your Mommy Makeover. Most patients take at least two weeks off from work and generally do not exercise for at least four weeks. Complete results may not manifest for several weeks depending on the amount of swelling present and your body’s ability to heal.
